Switzerland

On Friday, April 7th our friends the Bolen's came for another visit for Easter break. We left Saturday, April 8th and boarded a plane for Zurich together. We landed and Randy and Jeff had to figure out the tram system to get all nine of us and our luggage to our hotel. It was a challenge but they did great! We checked in and headed out to explore. We walked around and hit a few of the tourist shops. I think we all needed up buying many t-shirts for the four days because the weather ended up being warmer than what we had packed for. Lindenhof is a small garden that offers great views of Zurich, so we walked there. We enjoyed an AMAZING dinner at the Swiss Chuchi restaurant and it was the Woodbury kids first time experiencing fondue at a restaurant.

On Sunday we took the train to Scholl Laufen to see the Rhine Falls, Europe's largest waterfall. We enjoyed exploring around there and having lunch. The falls are very beautiful! Trained back to Zurich for more exploring and dinner.

Monday brought us training to Berne, Switzerland's capital. We saw the Federal building which has gorgeous views in the back. Saw the Cathedral at Munsterplatz, St. Vincent and climbed to the top. Then we went to Barenpark to see the bears and enjoy lunch. We then headed back to the city and enjoyed a boat cruise around Lake Zurich.

Tuesday we trained to Engleberg to see Mt. Titlis. From Engleberg station we bused to the cable cars. Climbed in the cable cars and headed for the top. Each cable car sported the pictures of the flags of different countries. The kids could name almost every one of them, it was fun to see what they knew. After the cable car ride, which took 20 mins, you get on a Rotair. The Rotair takes 5 minutes to the peak of Titlis. The base of the cable car rotates all the way up so you get all the views.  At the top we threw snow balls, had lunch, walked through Glacier Cave, rode the Ice Flyer and was courageous enough to walk over Europe's highest suspension bridge. I think it helped that it was partly cloudy. :)
When you head back down the mountain you can make a stop at Trubsee. We stopped and the kids did some sledding and playing in the snow there.
After Engleberg we headed to Lucerne on the train and stopped there. We saw the Chapel Bridge and the Dying Lion Monument, as well as bought some dry socks for all the kids. The Dying Lion Monument, or the Lion of Lucerne, is a rock relief in Lucerne, Switzerland. It commemorates the Swiss Guards where were massacred in 1792 during th French Revolution, when revolutionaries stormed the Tuileries Palace in Paris. Chapel Bridge, Kapellbrücke, is a covered wooden footbridge spanning diagonally across Reuss in the city of Lucerne. It is the oldest wooden covered bridge in Europe, as well as the world's oldest surviving truss bridge.
